Vocal recording

Our 7 m² booth gives you a mic matched to your voice, a headphone mix you can tweak, and an engineer at the desk who listens with you instead of rushing the red button.

Vocalist in recording booth with microphone and pop filter

Listeners notice the vocal first and forgive it last. A take recorded dry and calmly in the booth leaves your mixer room to add space and tone later — so Vocal recording at Oaklandledger starts with listening and setup, not an instant «record».

You can sing, rap, stack harmonies or record spoken lines for demos and releases. Bring a finished beat, a bounce from your home setup, or lyrics and tempo only — we shape the session around your starting point. For routines before you arrive, see our vocal warm-up guide in the guides hub.

Process

  1. Brief

Send beat, lyrics and references via contact. We load tempo and structure and hold time within Tue–Fri 10–20, Sat 10–18.

  2. Setup

Mic comparison, pop filter, headphone mix and gain. Allow fifteen to thirty minutes — that is not wasted studio time.

  3. Tracking

Full passes first, then targeted lines. We flag strong takes as we go so comping stays organised.

  4. Handoff

Comping when agreed, WAV export the same day. Backup kept for 12 months; see terms and conditions for details.

Booth acoustics

The vocal booth is intentionally dry: little room tone, plenty of breath and detail. That suits vocals and rap where space and reverb belong in Mixing later. Through the window you see the 20 m² control room — eye contact with the engineer without monitor bleed on the track.

We record at 24-bit and up to 96 kHz when your project requires it, so exports fit professional workflows without needless sample-rate conversion.

Microphone choice and position

No single mic fits every voice; we A/B condensers and dynamics on your verse or bar. Distance to the pop filter, height and angle shape sibilance and low end — small moves save fixes later.

Want a handheld feel for certain sections? We can adapt mounting as long as the mix plan allows it. Share reference tracks beforehand so we converge on tone faster without copying another artist.

Headphone mix and comfort

You get your own blend: more or less beat, softer hi-hats, a touch of reverb in the cans only — nothing printed to the file. Many singers loosen one earcup to hear their body tone; we rebalance instead of you pushing louder.

Water, a lyric stand and adjustable light are provided. Breaks are part of the workflow: a tired voice produces takes you will replace anyway. A shorter, focused block beats four hours on empty lungs.

Doubles, ad-libs and comping

Choruses often get a tight double; ad-libs and harmonies go to separate, clearly named tracks so an external mixer — or our Mixing service — can work immediately. We comp the best lines in the room or right after, depending on your booked block.

Mixing is a separate service with 2 revision rounds when agreed; vocal sessions deliver raw or compiled tracks, not a finished master. Tracking stems-only for a producer elsewhere is fine — we label WAVs consistently.

Who it is for

Solo artists on a single, rappers building an EP, band members adding vocals after Band recording, songwriters pitching demos — the booth is small enough for focus, large enough to breathe. Spoken word uses the same workflow with a different warm-up emphasis.

Participants must be at least 16; younger sessions need parent or guardian presence by arrangement. Session details are handled confidentially; see our privacy policy for contact data processing.

What to bring

  • Instrumental as WAV or stems, without a guide vocal if it masks your pitch.
  • Lyrics or script with breath marks where helpful.
  • Tempo, key and song map (intro, verse, chorus).
  • Two or three vocal references for direction, not imitation.
  • Your own headphones if you rely on them daily.

Upload large files ahead via contact so everything is loaded when you reach Bilderdijkstraat 165. Vocal warm-up covers food and drink habits that show up on busy Amsterdam studio days.

FAQ

How long for one song?

For a three- to four-minute track with verses, chorus and a few doubles, many artists plan two to four hours. The half-day block €320 often covers one single if you arrive prepared.

Can someone sit in the control room?

One or two guests is normal. Larger groups distract quickly — mention it when you request a quote via contact.

Do you mix and master too?

Yes, as separate services: Mixing and Mastering. You can mix vocals elsewhere; we deliver clean, named tracks.

What if I am ill on session day?

Tell us as early as possible. More than 7 days ahead we reschedule free; closer to the slot, deposit and 48-hour rules in terms and conditions apply.

Can I book a single hour for a quick demo?

Yes — €95 per hour suits short passes. Include setup time; send materials ahead so we maximise recording time.
